We're Debt Free!

When I was fired from my job at GE on October 30th, 2005, we plunged into a financial pit that we weren't sure if we could ever get out of. We owed over $130,000. It got worse! In 2006, we had our car repossessed and added other debts related to business sales taxes, medical, legal, credit card. When we tallied it all up in early 2007, we owed $170,000 to 33 different creditors and none of them was a mortgage

Our church introduced us to the Financial Peace Baby Steps System by Dave Ramsey in 2008. I read "The Total Money Makeover" and listened to the Dave Ramsey Show while I cleaned for years as we paid off debt month-after-month. It was a mountain. I would get so motivated hearing other stories of families paying off their debts, then coming on Dave's show and doing their Debt-Free Screams in front of 7 million listeners. I used to say to Teresa. "It will be us soon. We just need to keep saving, paying debt, and growing our business." We made so many sacrifices along the way. We stopped kid's activities and reigned in expenses to the point of minimalist thinking sometimes. Through it all, we kept our faith, kept on giving to our church, kept growing our business, and kept making those monthly payments.
